Check out Bri’s Soapbox !!
Well here’s a rare moment ! The original line-up of a young hopeful group called QUEEN ! Roger Taylor, Mike Grose, Brian May and Freddie Bulsara. Mike was a bass player from Cornwall with a very big sound, but things didn’t work out with him and we went in a search for a bass guitarist who shared our dreams. Guess who we found !!! Thanks to @39shadesofclogs for finding this - I don’t think I had this snap. 💥💥💥💥Yes ! A young Bri with straightened hair - just like in the film !!! 💥💥💥💥 I think this was taken at our very first rehearsal in a lecture theatre in Mech Eng that I booked - at Imperial College. Bri
Here’s the single - from 1989 ... Bri
A great catch-up with a dear friend. Know who she is ? She’s Belinda Gillet - who, as a child in 1989, won a competition to sing “Who Wants To Live Forever” along with a lad called Ian Meeson. You can still see the video we made on the Queen youtube channel. I had a broken arm in plaster - but we recorded the single for the British Bone Marrow Donor Association - looking for blood tissue type matches to save children with Leukaemia. Seems like another lifetime. 💥💥💥💥 Belinda has been a very successful Mum since then, but also became a damn good musician. She’s spent many a long year gigging up and down the country and quietly recording. She turned down at least one great recording deal along the way. And she’s also a fab teacher! At this moment she is plunging back into her singing career. Watch out !! Check her out - @belindagillettmusic Bri
Hi folks ! I hope it feels good to be alive out there - in spite of what might be bugging you right now. Bri
Thanks folks !! I’m in good shape - my procedure - a GASTROCNEMIUS RELEASE - seems to have hit the spot. All credit to my amazing surgeon Mr Sinnett ! 💥💥💥💥 - if you want MR Sinnett’s advice check this IG location - @grosvenororthopartners —- As you can see, my dancing is now back to ‘normal’ !!! Ha ha ! Yes - I’m a little tender around the calf, where the incision was made - but the principle of relieving the irritation on my Achilles Tendon by allowing this calf muscle to extend seems to be a very effective solution. Very clever. !! And so far ? Recommended !! I’ll keep you posted !! I’m HEELED !! Bri
And our hot news !!! A new LITE OWL in the planning stages. More rugged ! More colourful ! More adaptable ! And with a new twist ! Thanks for asking about my leg. I’m good today - a little sore but hobbling my way around quite successfully - business as normal (more or less! ) The procedure I had is called a GASTROCNEMIUS RELEASE - and it really seems to have worked already to take away my Achilles’ tendon pain - which had been bothering me for about a year. So, for anyone out there suffering from this problem - I’ll keep you posted, but so far I would recommend this very creative procedure — Bri
Christmas present thoughts ! Here I am Unboxing a Box ! I’m at my favourite injection moulding company - Weston’s in Sunbury-on-Thames - those great people who created the OWL stereoscope with me in 2009. They have a new BOX product which is taking the arts and crafts industry by storm - but which I’m sure will soon be standard gear for anyone on the road - a set of two polypropylene containers which fit together into a kind of suitcase - brilliant !! 100 per cent recyclable (as is my OWL, of course ! ) and incredibly useful for tidying up small bits and pieces ! It’s called an A4-2-GO ! Info obtainable direct from Weston’s - @weston_boxes Go ! Bri

Thanks for your kind messages folks. I’m doing fine this morning - a little sore but home and ready for a relatively relaxing day. As you can see, everything still works ! Still got my Sympathy Bandage and my anti-clot sock on - but they come off tonight. There’s a small band-aid underneath covering a very small incision. I actually CAN walk, but stairs are a bit of a challenge !! Onwards ! Have a good day folks ! Bri
I’m done ! After a snip to my calf muscle, I’m feeling good ! The theory is that it will release the excess tension in my Achilles’ tendon and get me out of a painful heel situation I’ve been in for many months. I had the problem all through our last tour of the USA - and although adrenaline got me through, my running around was severely curtailed, and there were a couple of nights when I really couldn’t move at all around the stage (nobody noticed, it seems ! 😏 ). So now I’ll be taking it easy just a bit for a while, but full recovery should be just in time for getting back out on tour in January - hopefully with a good pair of heels ! THANKS for your good wishes, folks. No cause for alarm. Bri
Ever feel life gets repetitive ?!!! Ha ha - I’m probably the last person to the party on Boomeranging. But the incomparable Ms Ellis is an expert ! Having delivered a truly sensational countreeee oriented vocal today, she engineered this masterpiece ! Thanks @kerryellis79 All this has nicely distracted me from the fact that I’m now headed back into town for a small ‘procedure’ which I haven’t been looking forward to - but should make my life a bit easier eventually. Bri
A night out ! At London’S O2 Arena. To see Elvis !! And - especially for me - James Burton playing live with a Elvis on screen. James is the guy below to the right in the Brian May red shirt ! ( it’s a coincidence - but we like it ! ) In the next shot you see a younger James on Screen with Elvis en vivo - and we hear James in 2019 playing along to the image of himself. Then backstage I was entranced by some moments with Priscilla Presley - who powers the show - and the inimitable James and his lovely Louise. I was moved. Full circle on my musical life. Grateful. 💥💥💥💥 No - I never got to meet Elvis, or even see him perform live. Much to my sadness. But it was lovely spending some time with Priscilla, his beautiful wife, and hearing some of those Elvis stories first-hand. Notably, for people like us who perform, it’s always interesting to hear that everybody gets nervous before a show. Priscilla told me Elvis was always incredibly anxious before he went on, and I saw the same comment about Luciano Pavarotti in that excellent documentary recently. It’s good for us to know that even the great and powerful still feel that fear in the belly, and perhaps that’s what makes them perform to the max. Bri
Wouldn’t it be a dream if this man - this hero - this immigrant - the Polish man - was the one who finally reunited Britain ? Maybe he is the signal that it’s time to kick out Xenophobia, Isiolationism, BREXIT, and all the lies that have dominated our media for the last three years ? Isn’t it time to remember that we, Britain, are a nation of foreigners ?!! That is our strength - and our pride. Anyone see the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ ? Se what a poor immigrant can do for us all ? It’s time, folks. When you vote, remember that neither of the major parties offers you the Peace and Stability of a strong Britain allied to the most powerful alliance in the world - Europe. Bri - - with acknowledgments to the Washington Post.
More highlights from last night’s jollity - including Grace the Hedgehog and the Save-Me team - saving wild animals in Surrey. Thanks for all the support, from us and all the foxes, deer, badgers, hedgehogs, mice, voles, bats, and so many kinds of birds that will benefit in the coming year from your contributions. Bri
Then and now ... this time last year Bo Rhap was on your movie theatre screens - this year it’s on our Tellies. None of us had any idea it would smash every box office record around the world and bring happiness to so many. I haven’t posted this comparison before, so thanks @brilliantmusicians for bringing it up. It’s a wonderful endorsement of the meticulous work Rami and the team put into recreating the climax of the movie. Note the kiss blown right at the end - who had noticed that before the film came out ?? Then and now. And 33 years ago, on that sunny Live Aid afternoon, who among us knew that those moments - those notes - at the old Wembley Stadium would live on and reach a new generation whose parents weren’t even around that day ?! And back further ... in 1970 ... well, it was all just a dream. It’s been an amazing journey. Thanks folks. Bri
In WINDLESHAM tonite !!! Me with two of the luminous ladies of the Annual WIndlesham Christmas Illuminations ceremony ! This is Deirdre and Jo - who tirelessly brave the cold every year to man the Tombola and Knick Knack stall - and throughout the year work on keeping Windlesham looking floral and cared for. Big Thanks to them, and Conrad who organises this epic event, and to Anne and my brilliant Save-Me team, with a special mention for the amazing GRACE - the biggest cuddliest hedgehog in The Home Counties, and to all who made our village Christmas gathering Jolly !! Bri
You know - I do sincerely wonder if, in the 7.7 Billion people on Planet Earth there is another voice quite like this. Yay ! I’m having an @adamlambert Adam Lambert evening !! Thanks to a fan account @adamlambert049 - thanks ! Wow - reeling from this totally live performance on the James Corden show. And ... do you feel like you’re watching a huge orchestral rock show ? This stupendous sound is just a voice and a piano !!! Yeeeow. Bri
Jeeeeez ! Just stumbled upon this stunning fragment on a fan site. Is this guy the nuts or what ?!! We’ll have the privilege of working with him again soon - once we get back in the saddle mid January for an audacious long haul around the world. This is @adamlambert - and thanks @adamlambert049 for the clip. Bri
Stop Press !!! Europe has spoken ! ESA’s HERA mission WILL go to the asteroid Didymos ! Today the project received its approval for funding. This mission is the Human Race’s first attempt to test on site our theories of planetary defence. It will test whether we can deflect a potentially Earth-impacting asteroid. Some day this just might save us or our grandchildren. Bri
Now here’s how it should be done ! Innovation, artistry, skill, beauty ... and what a theme !!! Thanks @momentsin3d for permission to repost ! 💥💥💥💥 Swipe for stereos. Bri
Time for a table-top selfie vid ! Great studio session with the magical @kerryellis79 today - and a tutorial on IG Stories for me from Ms KE ! Of course I’m still a Luddite - I’m not good at embracing new stuff ! And impermanence bothers me ... Bri
Boys’ day out !! Me and my astro buddies played truant today - at the London Science Museum. Brilliant ! A 3-D movie shot in the International Space Station - a tour of the Apollo artefacts collection, and a virtual audience with Sir Isaac Newton ! Yes - here I am with the inventor of the colours of the rainbow. The current Astronomer Royal (Sir Martin Rees ) insists in most of his lectures that I resemble the great man. Don’t see it myself ! 😌 My mates are Prof Matt Taylor - heavy metal influenced boss of the ESA Rosetta mission to rendezvous with that spectacular binary comet - and Alex Milas - founder of Space Rocks and Sci Fi expert. We also did Tapas and beers. A great day off !!! 💥💥💥💥And - yes - I have been Taylored - as you can see ! Well, it wouldn’t be the first time ! 😎 Bri —- photo: Phil Webb
